We do not remember days; we remember moments
– Cesare Pavese, The Burning Man
This month has been all about getting my new look blog back up and running! After a turbulent 38 days of to-ing and fro-ing I managed to move my site from wordpress to host it through hostgator, which means it is now far more customisable than it ever could be before. It also means that I have been having to re-format everything published to date, and re-upload almost all my pictures for every blog post I have ever written, which has been insanely time consuming (and is not yet remotely completed, so if you see a old post missing pictures, fear not, they will return over the coming weeks).
Sam and I finished our house sit on the farm, we can’t express how much we loved being there and how wonderful Donna and Marty (and all their family and friends) are. Finishing the house sit means we get to travel around a little now, but we have had to say goodbye (at least for a short time) to the gorgeous animals and lovely people.
We have spent a lot of this month relaxing, Sam has been playing on the quad bike on the farm, we have taken the dogs out for walks and we have watched an awful lot of criminal minds with Carrie (eight seasons to be precise). I also did some colouring – thank you Andi for my birthday present of colouring books, pens and pencils! We had a wonderful time meeting up with Ged, Andrea and the boys and showing them round the farm and introducing them to all the animals. I have eaten far too much cake – my birthday cake from Andrea was beautiful, and I’ve taken away so many recipes from Donna that I think I’ll weigh twice as much if I cook them all.
My month of…
Learning to ride a quad bike on the farm. All off road, and lots of mud, marshland and sheep to avoid. I haven’t been on a quad bike since I was around 10 years old, and I was terrified then. Now it is kind of fun – but I am not very good at it!
Spending half a day in a public library because we are freedom camping, which means no heat, electricity, wifi or even toilets. The library has all these. I bet everyone is desperate for our life right now.
Donna’s shortbread recipe is a huge winner with Sam. Next time we have a kitchen, I’ll be making some and putting the recipe up on here.
It was my birthday this month, and Sam decided to take me out ‘somewhere’ as a surprise. I hate surprises because I like to be in control. And in not knowing where we are going, I am very much not in control! We ended up going to Escape Masters, an escape room experience, with Lisa and Adrian and it rocked. It was so much fun! Especially when I found a secret door in our spy mission! It was so fun that we went straight back and did a second escape room after lunch. We took our second room on the extra hard level, and still made it out with over 15 minutes to spare. Go combined brain power!
In one day, I google searched ‘correct word for dog hysterectomy’, ‘Jeffrey Dahmer’ (I blame criminal minds for that) and ‘how does a steering wheel not hit you in the face when the air bag explodes.’
I have been practicing my Moana, and I absolutely have ‘You’re Welcome’ to concert quality performance.
All in all, June has been a pretty wonderful month. July brings a new place to stay, more time on the road again and cuddles with the beautiful cats!
