I know what I have to do if I want to lose weight and stay healthy: eat a proper diet and exercise. All I’ve got to do is apply it.
– John Candy
The exercise regimen began in earnest this week. I have been to the gym twice (and actually done two pretty strenuous workouts!)
Sam and my Brother-in-law (his brother) who we are going away with this summer, have been having a little competition to get into shape for the trip. There is no doubt in it, they have both lost a hell of a lot of weight between them, and gained a lot of muscle and general fitness. My sister-in-law, is also super skinny. So that leaves me. The unfit, tubby one, who refuses to look like a whale in photos!
Consequently, I have plans for healthy eating and regular exercise: and because everyone needs that summer holiday bikini body, I have joined the masses of women on the quest for non-whale like proportions. I’m not saying I am huge. I’m a comfortable size 12 (UK) which I know many people would kill to be. But I am only just over 5 foot (well, 5ft 2 and 3/4 to be precise) and this makes me look a lot bigger. I was for a while a size 6-8, which was probably a little too skinny for me – and I don’t intend to get down to that size again. I guess I was verging on anorexia at that point in my life. I can still tell you know what I ate daily: 1 bowl of cereal (rice krispies) with milk and sugar, and two apples. And that was it. For nearly 2 years of my life. So, I know that I can be skinnier, and I know now that I was unhealthy doing it – but at the time, I genuinely didn’t have time to eat.
I want to be a size 8-10 (my top half is always about half a size smaller than my bottom half) and to achieve this, I am increasing my exercise, and making my diet healthier. Increasing my water intake to 2 litres a day, increasing my fruit and veg intake, increasing my protein and lowering my fats/sugars and carbs (I like cake)
I’m not expecting miracle results, but I am hoping to carry this on after I return (when I will probably be about 2 stone heavier from all the noodles)
But, the toning has begun, the fat burning is happening. The cardio is occurring, the weights are killing me and the new healthier me will emerge. Ready to take on the world!
Good luck to everyone on their pre-holiday shape up. It’s not fun, but were all in it together!
Now, I just need someone to tell me how to get a tan in the rainy British summer so that I have some level of skin protection and I am away!
Are you trying to lose weight or tone up ready for your next holiday? Do you have any tips?
